DO I NEED TO TRAIN STAFF IN BASIC LIFE SUPPORT?

The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. These regulations apply to all workplaces including those with less than five employees and to the self-employed. It’s the employer’s responsibility to determine how many people need training and to what level.
For Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulated providers, ensuring the appropriate first aid training for all staff helps comply with the Fundamental Standards.
You’ll need to assess the appropriate level of first aid expertise required and ensure people are appropriately trained. Workplaces, where there are more significant health and safety risks, are more likely to need trained first aiders

COURSE BREAKDOWN

This course teaches staff how to make an initial assessment of someone in a medical situation. This is a systematic process of approaching a casualty, identifying any hazards, and dealing with an immediate and life-threatening emergency. In this section, we will look at DR ABC – the acronym used in the primary survey, obstructed airways, treating choking adults, and CPR.
OBSTRUCTED AIRWAYS- INFANTS
An infant is a child aged 1 or younger. If a child’s airway becomes blocked, due to their size, they’re particularly vulnerable as they can’t communicate the fact that they’re choking, so your staff will learn how to spot the warning signs. They will also learn the steps that they will need to take if an infant is choking and how to perform CPR on an infant.
TREATING A CHOKING CHILD
The second part will teach staff how to treat a choking child. Depending on the size of the child and age- the different techniques are often different, therefore the staff member will need to assess the individual and judge which method will be the most appropriate for that particular situation. They will learn how to treat a child who you believe is choking as well as performing CPR on a child (aged between 1 and the onset of puberty).
OBSTRUCTED AIRWAY ADULTS
As well as learning about choking in infants, you will also learn how to help an adult choking and how to assess and treat the person in need.
CPR ON A DUMMY
Your staff will learn how to perform basic life support and CPR on a dummy. They will learn the very best procedure in a clear manner from our professional staff at Knights Absorb.
